OCO City-Wide Leadership Meeting

OCO Public Action

Below is the body of a recent e-letter from OCO Director, Amy Fitzgerald….

Greetings OCO leaders,

We are in the final stretch to place a measure on the ballot that will protect Oakland renters!

With 1 week to go, only CMs Kaplan & Noel Gallo are solidly in support of the measure. CM Brooks is currently conflicted out by the City Attorney. We will need everyone’s help in order to move the CMs Kalb, Guillen, Campbell-Washington & McElhaney to support a version that does not include hidden deals, major revisions or weakening what we currently have on the books. The current measure being brought forward by CM Kaplan still makes significant improvements to protecting renters while also reflecting the policies that are politically viable.

We need you to join us tomorrow, Thursday, July 14th at 12:15 on the steps of City Hall for a press event to urge the City Council & Mayor to Protect Oakland Renters! Please let me know if you’re able to attend!

In the days to follow, we are asking supporters to call their Council members to ask them to support Council member Kaplan’s renter protection initiative. Please let me know if you are willing to call your council member.

Finally, the final council vote on this proposal will take place next Tuesday, July 19 at the City Council meeting. There are several important agenda items that night (including the Civilian Police Oversight Commission), so we are asking people to arrive at City Hall at 4:30pm for a short gathering and then enter the chambers to save seats and fill out Speakers’ Cards. If you are not able to gather at 4:30p, please arrive by 7pm.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope to see you Thursday and Tuesday!

peace,
Amy
