Throughout Lent we’re posting daily devotions written by capc Oakland members about their favorite scriptures. Such devotions during Lent (or Advent) are a tradition developed in the past century among American Christians, and an accessible way to interact with each other, and consecrate a few moments each day to faith and mindfulness of the Way of Jesus.

Curiously Sundays don’t count for the 40 days of Lent.  It’s how you get 40 days from 6 weeks from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday.  So each Sunday we’ll post the proposed scripture readings of the Lectionary Cycle for you to reflect upon on your own.

Lectionary Readings for the First Sunday in Lent

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2016

Deuteronomy 26:1-11

Psalm 91:1-2, 9-16

Romans 10:8b-13

Luke 4:1-13

At CAPC Oakland we’re reading Mark 10:17-31

Questions for reflection:

What truth do you hear in these scriptures?  Have have you experienced it as true in your life?
